Reading is slipping, and our generation is being asked to make sense of the news with less help than ever.

seniors scored below even the most basic reading level
In 2024, U.S. high school seniors had the lowest reading scores ever recorded on the Nation's Report Card. About a third scored below even the most basic level. When fewer young people can read and judge what they're told, democracy gets harder for everyone.
Youth Civic Digest wants to close that gap. We're a newsroom run by young people, made to help our generation understand what's happening today and why it matters to us. We let young people write about the issues they care about. We also help them read about the things that affect their own lives.
Behind the scenes, we use research tools to gather coverage from lots of different sources, show what's missing, and turn passive scrolling into real action.
Made by young people, for young people, because understanding the news is the first step to changing it.
